World Press Freedom Day 2025
03/05/2025
World Press
Freedom Day reminds us that journalism is not a crime — it is the
lifeblood of democracy.
Free media hold power to account, give voice to
the voiceless, and bring truth to light.
Where there is no press freedom, corruption
grows in the shadows.
Without independent journalism, society loses
its compass.
Facts matter — and those who uncover them must
be protected, not persecuted.
Journalists around the world face intimidation,
censorship, imprisonment, and even death.
Their courage sustains the public's right to
know.
We honor those who risk everything to inform
others, often under threat.
A free press is not an enemy of the people — it
is their shield.
It is not a luxury for stable countries; it is
a necessity for justice everywhere.
Technology has changed how we consume information,
but not the need for truth.
Freedom of expression must be defended against
disinformation and manipulation.
Media independence is a cornerstone of
peaceful, pluralistic societies.
We must support journalists — especially those
in exile, under attack, or silenced.
Silence is not neutrality — it is complicity.
Today we reaffirm our commitment:
To defend press freedom, wherever it is under
threat.
To protect journalists, not just in words but
with real guarantees.
To stand for truth, transparency, and
accountability.
Because without press freedom, there is no real
freedom at all.
